Report on Annual Expenditures for Travel, Hospitality and Conferences 2019-20

As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on the total annual expenditures for each of travel, hospitality and conferences for the Courts Administration Service (CAS) for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020 except for information withheld under the Access to Information Act, the Privacy Act or information related to Deputy Judges, given their status as judicial officers.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

CAS’s travel, hospitality and conference expenditures support the delivery of the following core programs and services to Canadians:

  • The provision of effective and efficient registry, judicial and corporate services to the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada and the Tax Court of Canada. Significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Travel: compared with fiscal year 2018-19, departmental travel expenditures increased by $94 thousand (11%) mainly due to additional travel requirements in judicial and registry services and in Program and Administrative Services modernization initiative throughout the country.

Hospitality: compared with fiscal year 2018-19, departmental hospitality expenditures decreased slightly by $1 thousand (-2%).

Conference fees: departmental conference fees expenditures were less than $1 thousand in 2019-20.

Minister and minister’s exempt staff: consistent with fiscal year 2018-19, departmental expenditures for international travel by the Minister and the Minister’s exempt staff were nil in 2019-20.
